You know how some Moms are absolute rockstars at caring for their families, but often leave themselves off the list? Many of these women are left pushing their own pain and anxiety aside just to get through the day. It’s so hard to care for others when you’re in pain and the gremlins are screaming in your head.
I help women dial down the pain and racing thoughts so they can take care of their families AND themselves. I teach women how to make peace with anxiety and live with more ease.
I’ve been practicing and teaching yoga for over 20 years, and it never ceases to amaze me the results of this work. Did you know that 1 in 3 women have anxiety and 60% of those women have chronic pain? That’s a lot of women suffering while trying to care for others.
I’ve been there – an exhausted mom of three holding my breath in pain and anxiety just trying to get through the day. I pushed my own needs aside for so many years and it left me in physical and emotional pain, fighting off panic attacks. I was scared to ask for help when I so desperately needed it and always felt that I didn’t have time to take care of myself anyway.
It’s why I got in to this work — so I can help women like you feel at home in their bodies without pain as well as feel a sense of zen and calm as they take care of the people they love the most.
I help my clients develop practical and accessible tools to calm anxiety and move with ease. As a result of this work, women can listen to what their body is telling them, when it’s time to take a breath, a break or push forward if necessary. When a woman understands what her body is saying, she can address her own needs in real time rather than letting the anxiety and pain take its toll on your physical and emotional health.
My own yoga journey began in 1999 at my local YMCA. I fell in love with the practice and connected my mind, body and spirit in new and different ways. I found ways to work with my body without punishing it. I discovered ways to move that brought me more freedom, mobility and kept me present in the moment. In the beginning, yoga was all about the Asana, or poses. Yoga has evolved for me over the years, just as I have evolved through pregnancy, aging and living life.
In 2005, I completed my yoga teacher training with the Living Yoga Program in Austin, TX. I began teaching regularly in 2007. I’ve taught yoga to people ages 2-95, always striving to find what works with and for every body. With each of my students, I strive to find the balance of challenge and ease. In yoga, it is often referred to as “finding your edge.” I often think of coming to the edge of a beautiful vista — where you may feel that bit of discomfort being so close to the cliff edge, and remain close enough to take in the beauty.
I have over 2000 teaching hours.
I received my BS in Psychology and MA in Spirituality from Santa Clara University. Before focusing my work on teaching yoga, I worked as a High School Youth Minister and a High School Religious Studies Teacher. I have extensive experience producing retreats and workshops and facilitating small and large groups. Additionally, I am a certified Group Exercise Instructor with AFAA and have taught Kickboxing and Sculpt Resistance Classes.
Most recently, I became a Reembody Method Certified Apprentice. Reembody is a movement modality based in science, anthropology and physics. It identified tendencies in the body which can lead to pain and discomfort and then subverts those tendencies to bring the body into greater ease and efficiency.
